The benefits of Custcuta Chinessis Extract
In traditional Chinese medicine, it is commonly used in the treatment of diseases like infertility and fetal
irritability. And in recent years a lot of progress has been made on the researches of this herb. Now, let’s take
a look at its health benefits from the angles of the results of scientific research and TCM theory.
1)Osteoporosis and alopecia, In a June 2010 article appearing in “Phytotherapy Research,” drynol cibotinis,a
newly developed botanical combination including Cuscuta chinensis was investigated for its therapeutic
benefits for treating osteoporosis. Each of the botanicals in this mixture has been used in traditional Chinese
medicine to treat osteoporosis. The researchers assessed effects of drynol cibotin on cell growth, programmed
cell death, calcium uptake and production of bone matrix proteins. The results showed that drynol cibotin
significantly increased cell proliferation and inhibited cell death in osteoblasts,
2)Alopecia, or hair loss, is an androgen-driven psychologically distressing condition, which affects millions of
men and women. In an article appearing in the September 2008 issue of the“Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology”
researchers evaluated Cuscuta reflexa for hair growth activity in test animals with alopecia. The authors used
petroleum extract of C. reflexa on albino mice with testosterone-induced alopecia for 20 days. Its inhibitory
abilities were evaluated by follicular density and microscopic observation of skin sections. The study found
that the extract exhibited promising hair growth activity as reflected in follicular density and skin section
observation. Inhibition of enzymatic activity suggested that the extract reversed androgen-induced alopecia
by inhibiting conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone.
3)Male InfertilityThe March2006edition of the“Chinese Archives of Traditional Chinese Medicine”documented
the damage caused by reactive oxygen species, ROS,to human sperm and the mechanism by which Cuscuta
japonica can treat male infertility.Sperm cell with normal physiological function were selected and different
concentrations of extract were incubated with sperm in the ROS environment. The cells’ integrity was
calculated and the sperm structure was observed. The authors found that extract from C. japonica can
significantly protect the sperm cell membrane,as well as its structure and the cellular function from the
damage caused by ROS.
4)Sexual benefit for men-It’s said to increase male fertility.Recently, scientists have discovered that derived
properties of the plant can actually protect the male’s sperm.The5key active molecules that are responsible
for the function are beta-sitosterol, d-sesamin,9(R)-hydroxy-d-sesamin, d-pinoresinol and daucosterol – each
serving to protect the sperm cell membrane and mitochondrion function, preserving the sperm’s acosomic
structure and preventing damage from free radicals. But benefits to men don’t end there. Cuscuta is often
an important ingredient of erection enhancement formulas, as it helps increase production of Nitric Oxide
Syntheses inside the penile tissues. It also enhances the intra-cavernosal pressure (ICP) inside the penis
resulting in harder and fuller erection. To find out for yourself if the formulas that benefit from the inclusion
of cuscuta can have a similarly positive effect on your sexuality.
5)Other effects. Its can increase resistance to cerebral ischemia, enrich heart blood, tonify kidney enhances
immunity,Antiaging and antioxidant action,make up a deficiency,help bodybuilding,reduce urine output and
the frequency of urination, and so on.
