Effects and mechanism of lutein on apoptosis of esophageal carcinoma
Lutein also named plant yellow blank, usually founded in vegetables, flowers, fruit, corn, egg yolk, and algae,
espcially rich in marigold. Epidemiological studies have shown that lutein in preventing macular
degeneration, and development of tumor, cardiovascular disease and enhance immunity, etc, has a wide
range of biological activities. This study mainly to study the effects of lutein on apoptosis and its mechanism.
In this study, researchers mainly usd RPMI nutrient solution ( contents 10% calf serum) to culture the EC9706
cells in routine. After curlturing 24 hours in normal condition and dealing with by lutein at 100 μg·mL-1
concentration. Also build the solution group and 5-fluorouracil (5-Fu) group. Using the flow cytometry to
investigate the effects of lutein on cell apoptosis of EC9706 cells. And also used the Immunohistochemical
to determine the apoptosis-related protein expression. After this study show the lutein can promote cell
apoptosis after processing 96 hours used the 100 μg·mL-1 lutein under laboratory conditions. And the
immunohistochemical analysis results show the lutein can inhibition the expression of antiapoptotic proteins
BCL-2 and promote the expression of apoptosis proteins Bax in the same condition. After this study, we
get that lutein could inhibit mitosis and stimulate apoptosis of EC9706 cells. The apoptotic effect may result
from the down-regulation of expression of Bcl-2 and up-regulation expression of Bax.
